FiLiA2025 Commemorative Magazine

The FiLiA2025 magazine is something truly special – an intimate insight into the feminists behind feminism.

With moving accounts from women around the world, including Afghan author and activist Marzia Babakarkhail, abolitionist campaigner Simone Watson and anti-porn activist Rakel Nævdal. There are also unmissable in-depth interviews with feminist journalist Sonia Sodha, the co-director of Project Resist and a founding member of Southall Black SistersPragna Patel, and international Human Rights expert Purna Sen, who tells us why resistance is no longer enough.

It was a real honour to include some of the mothers of our movement, such as Max Dashu, whose seminal work on the hidden history of women's culture is central to feminism today, and Heide Goettner-Abendroth, who founded research into matriarchal societies. Their pieces go to the very heart of consciousness-raising. Through their work, we know there is nothing natural or inevitable about a system that allocates one half of the species most of the assets, and the other most of the work.

With exclusive artwork from artists such as Rachel Ara and behind-the-scenes photos of the FiLiA team, the magazine is not only a beautiful commemoration of the 10th FiLiA, it provides hours of reading. Across continents and generations, we’ve tried to capture the depth, diversity and strength of our movement. Like FiLiA itself, it’s a space where voices from the early days of radical organising sit alongside newer activists – a rare chance to connect, learn and carry the work forward together.

FiLiA2025 marked a moment – and the magazine is a powerful companion to that experience.
